About this exercise

The high knee star tap is a dynamic plyometric exercise combining high-knee running in place with alternating foot taps to targets arranged in a star pattern around you. It builds cardiovascular endurance, lower-body power, agility, and coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall in the center of your space with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Begin jogging in place, driving your knees up to hip height with each step
  • As you raise each knee, reach down with the opposite hand to tap the floor (or a target) diagonally in front of you
  • Vary the tap direction — front, front-diagonal, and side — to create the star pattern
  • Keep your core braced and your chest tall throughout the movement
  • Land softly on the balls of your feet and maintain a quick, rhythmic pace
  • Continue alternating high knees and taps for the prescribed duration or repetitions
