About this exercise

A seated floor stretch that targets the calves and Achilles tendon by actively pressing the heels into the ground while pulling the toes toward the shins. The isometric pressing action deepens the stretch in the posterior lower leg.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you
  • Sit tall with a neutral spine and place your hands lightly on the floor beside you
  • Flex your feet by pulling your toes toward your shins
  • Actively press your heels into the floor as firmly as possible
  • Hold the tension for the prescribed duration, feeling the stretch through the calves and Achilles
  • Relax briefly, then repeat for the next hold

The Heel Press is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
