About this exercise

A beginner-level front lever progression performed on a pull-up bar with both knees fully tucked to the chest. Tucking the knees reduces the lever arm, making it possible to hold a near-horizontal body position while developing the lat, core, and shoulder strength required for the full front lever.

How to Perform

  • Grip a pull-up bar with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder width
  • Hang with your arms fully extended and depress your shoulder blades
  • Tuck both knees tightly to your chest
  • Engage your lats and core, then rotate your hips upward until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Keep your arms straight and hold the position for the desired duration
  • Lower back to the hanging position in a controlled manner
