Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Hanging Oblique Knee Raise.

MediumCoreObliques

About this exercise

The hanging oblique knee raise is a core exercise performed while hanging from a pull-up bar. By rotating the hips and drawing the knees toward one shoulder, this movement targets the obliques more directly than a standard knee raise, building rotational core strength and improving abdominal definition.

How to Perform

  • Grip a pull-up bar with both hands slightly wider than shoulder-width and hang with arms fully extended
  • Engage your core and stabilize your body to minimize swinging
  • Bend your knees and, while exhaling, rotate your hips to lift your knees toward your right shoulder
  • Hold briefly at the top of the movement
  • Lower your legs in a controlled manner back to the hanging position
  • On the next rep, rotate to lift your knees toward your left shoulder
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of reps
