About this exercise

The handstand walk is an advanced gymnastic skill that develops shoulder strength, stability, and full-body coordination by traveling forward on your hands while inverted. It demands significant overhead strength, balance, and proprioceptive awareness throughout the entire kinetic chain.

How to Perform

  • Kick up into a handstand against a wall or in open space, stacking wrists under shoulders
  • Find your balance with a tight body — squeeze your glutes, brace your core, and point your toes
  • Shift your weight onto one hand and lift the opposite hand to take a small step forward
  • Continue moving one hand at a time in a controlled, rhythmic pattern
  • Keep your gaze slightly forward between your hands to help with balance
  • Land safely by arching one arm out to the side or stepping down with control
