About this exercise

The handstand against the wall is an inverted bodyweight skill that builds shoulder strength, stability, and body awareness. The wall provides support so you can safely develop the balance and pressing power needed for a freestanding handstand.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing the wall and place your hands on the floor about 15–20 cm from the base
  • Kick one leg up strongly while following with the other, landing both heels against the wall
  • Lock your elbows, press through your palms, and stack your hips directly over your shoulders
  • Squeeze your glutes and core to maintain a straight, rigid body line from hands to heels
  • Keep your head neutral — gaze between your hands or slightly forward
  • Hold the position for the target duration, breathing steadily
  • Lower one leg at a time in a controlled manner to return to the floor

About the Wall Handstand

The Wall Handstand is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
