About this exercise

The hamstring bridge is a bodyweight hip-extension exercise that isolates the hamstrings and glutes by driving the hips up from a supine position with heels planted on the floor. Unlike a standard glute bridge where the feet are flat, keeping only the heels down shifts more load onto the hamstrings throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and only your heels resting on the floor, toes raised
  • Place your arms flat at your sides for stability
  • Brace your core and press through your heels to lift your hips toward the ceiling
  • Drive until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to knees
  • Squeeze your glutes and hamstrings at the top for a moment
  • Lower your hips in a controlled manner back to the floor
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps

About the Hamstring Bridge

The Hamstring Bridge is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
