MediumCalves

About this exercise

The hack calf raise is performed on a hack squat machine with the back supported at an angle, allowing heavy loading of the calves with minimal spinal stress. Positioning the balls of the feet on the machine's platform while the shoulders rest against the pads provides a stable base for a full range calf raise movement targeting the gastrocnemius and soleus.

How to Perform

  • Load the hack squat machine and step onto the platform, placing just the balls of your feet on the lower edge
  • Settle your shoulders under the pads and straighten your legs, releasing the safety handles
  • Lower your heels as far as possible below the platform to achieve a deep calf stretch
  • Press through the balls of your feet and rise onto your toes as high as possible
  • Pause at the top and squeeze your calves
  • Lower your heels slowly back down in a controlled motion to complete the rep
  • Re-engage the safety handles when the set is finished
