About this exercise

The front plank with arm and leg lift challenges core stability in a high plank position by requiring you to extend the opposite arm and leg simultaneously. This contralateral movement demands anti-rotation control, building functional core strength and glute activation.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank position with arms fully extended, hands directly under your shoulders
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level throughout the movement
  • Simultaneously extend your right arm forward and your left leg backward until both are parallel to the floor
  • Hold briefly at the top, then return both limbs to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Alternate sides, extending the left arm and right leg
  • Maintain a neutral spine and avoid rotating or sagging your hips
