MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

A plyometric conditioning drill in which you rapidly shuffle forward a set distance and then shuffle backward to the starting position, training reactive leg power, agility, and cardiovascular endurance. It requires no equipment and can be scaled by adjusting the speed or distance of each shuffle.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a slight athletic stance with knees bent, weight on the balls of the feet
  • Quickly shuffle forward by pushing off the rear foot and stepping with the lead foot, keeping feet from crossing
  • Cover the desired distance with fast, low shuffles while staying light on your feet
  • Without pausing, immediately reverse direction and shuffle backward to the starting position using the same quick-stepping technique
  • Keep the chest up, hips low, and core braced throughout the drill
  • Maintain a continuous rhythm, breathing steadily as you move
  • Perform for the prescribed time or number of forward-backward cycles

About the Forward-Backward Shuffle

The Forward-Backward Shuffle is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
