About this exercise

The Forward Arms Plank is a challenging core isometric exercise where you hold a plank position with your arms stretched straight out in front of you rather than under your shoulders. The extended arm position greatly increases the demand on the core muscles by lengthening the lever arm.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank position with your hands under your shoulders and body straight
  • Slowly walk your hands forward, one at a time, until your arms are fully extended in front of you
  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels — do not let your hips rise or drop
  • Engage your core fully and squeeze your glutes to prevent your lower back from arching
  • Keep your neck neutral and breathe steadily
  • Hold for the desired duration, then walk your hands back to the starting position
