Forefoot Screw One-Legged Stand

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Forefoot Screw One-Legged Stand.

EasyCalvesCore

About this exercise

A unilateral balance and mobility drill performed on the forefoot of a single leg, incorporating a gentle rotational screw motion through the hip and lower limb to improve proprioception, ankle stability, and calf engagement. It requires no equipment and challenges the neuromuscular system with a subtle twisting component.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one foot, shifting weight forward onto the forefoot with the heel slightly raised
  • Lift the opposite foot off the ground and hold it clear of the floor
  • Find your balance on the forefoot, engaging the calf and core for stability
  • Slowly rotate the planted leg outward (external rotation at the hip), allowing the forefoot to screw gently into the floor
  • Hold the rotated position for 2–3 seconds, feeling engagement through the calf, hip, and core
  • Slowly reverse the rotation back to the neutral position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other foot
