About this exercise

The fist push-up is a bodyweight chest exercise performed with closed fists on the floor instead of open palms, promoting a more neutral wrist position and a slightly deeper range of motion at the bottom. It strengthens the chest, triceps, and anterior deltoids while reducing wrist strain for those with wrist discomfort.

How to Perform

  • Get into a push-up position and make fists with both hands, placing your knuckles flat on the floor directly under your shoulders
  • Keep your fists aligned with each other and your arms straight
  • Brace your core and maintain a straight line from head to heels
  • Lower your chest toward the floor by bending your elbows at roughly 45 degrees to your torso
  • Push through your chest and triceps to straighten your arms and return to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
