EZ Barbell Reverse-Grip Preacher Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the EZ Barbell Reverse-Grip Preacher Curl.

MediumOuter forearm

About this exercise

The EZ barbell reverse-grip preacher curl isolates the forearm extensors and brachioradialis by combining a reverse (overhand) grip with the fixed arm position of the preacher bench. The scott bench eliminates any cheating and delivers a full stretch to the forearm muscles at the bottom.

How to Perform

  • Sit at a preacher (scott) bench and adjust the seat so your upper arms lie flat on the angled pad
  • Hold the EZ barbell with an overhand grip on the outer angled grips, palms facing down
  • Start with the arms nearly fully extended on the pad
  • Curl the bar upward by flexing at the elbows until your forearms are roughly vertical
  • Squeeze the brachioradialis and forearm extensors at the top
  • Lower the bar slowly back to a near-full extension, feeling the stretch in the forearms
  • Keep your upper arms pressed firmly against the pad throughout the movement
