About this exercise

The EZ barbell incline triceps extension is performed lying back on an incline bench, lowering the EZ bar behind the head to deeply stretch and load the long head of the triceps. The incline angle increases the range of motion and long-head stretch compared to a flat lying extension.

How to Perform

  • Set the bench to a moderate incline and lie back with your head at the upper end
  • Hold the EZ barbell with a close overhand grip and press it up over your chest with arms extended
  • Keeping your upper arms perpendicular to the floor, hinge at the elbows and slowly lower the bar toward the top of your head or behind it
  • Feel a deep stretch in the triceps at the bottom position
  • Press the bar back up by extending the elbows until your arms are straight
  • Keep your upper arms stationary and your elbows pointing toward the ceiling throughout
  • Avoid flaring the elbows out to the sides during the movement
