EZ Barbell Drag Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the EZ Barbell Drag Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A bicep curl variation where the EZ bar is dragged up the front of the body with the elbows travelling backward rather than swinging forward. This keeps the long head of the biceps under tension throughout and eliminates momentum, providing a stricter contraction than a standard curl.

How to Perform

  • Stand holding the EZ bar with a supinated (underhand) grip at hip level, hands on the inner angled sections
  • Keep the bar close to your body and lead with your elbows, driving them backward and upward
  • Drag the bar up along your torso — it should skim the front of your body all the way to chest height
  • Squeeze the biceps hard at the top with your elbows pointed behind you
  • Lower the bar slowly back down the same dragging path, maintaining contact or near-contact with the body
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions with no swinging or hip drive
