Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the EZ Bar Decline Skull Crusher.

About this exercise

The EZ barbell decline triceps extension is a lying triceps isolation movement performed on a decline bench. The decline angle increases the range of motion at the elbow, placing greater stretch on the long head of the triceps compared to a flat bench variation. The EZ bar's angled grip reduces wrist strain.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a moderate decline and secure your feet at the top
  • Lie back and hold an EZ barbell with a close overhand grip, arms extended above your chest
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary and elbows pointing toward the ceiling, hinge at the elbows and lower the bar toward your forehead
  • Stop just before the bar reaches your forehead, feeling a deep stretch in the triceps
  • Press the bar back to the starting position by fully extending the elbows
  • Keep your upper arms locked in place throughout the entire movement
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
