EZ Barbell Close Grip Preacher Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the EZ Barbell Close Grip Preacher Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The EZ barbell close grip preacher curl isolates the biceps by bracing the upper arms against the preacher bench pad, eliminating shoulder involvement and placing constant tension on the muscle. Using a close grip on the EZ bar shifts emphasis to the outer (long) head of the biceps.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the preacher bench so the top of the pad sits at armpit height
  • Grip the inner (close) handles of the EZ bar with an underhand grip
  • Rest your upper arms flat against the pad and let the bar hang at arm's length
  • Curl the bar upward toward your chin while keeping your upper arms stationary on the pad
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement
  • Lower the bar in a controlled manner back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
