About this exercise

The EZ barbell anti-gravity press is a prone shoulder exercise performed lying face-down on an incline bench, where you press the EZ bar upward against gravity to target the rear deltoids and upper back. The prone position eliminates momentum and forces strict rear-delt activation.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline and lie face-down with your chest resting on the pad
  • Hold the EZ barbell with an overhand grip, arms hanging straight down below the bench
  • Brace your core and keep your head in a neutral position
  • Raise the bar upward and forward by contracting your rear deltoids and upper back
  • Press until your arms are roughly parallel to the floor or slightly above
  • Pause at the top for a moment, then slowly lower the bar back to the starting position
  • Avoid using momentum or shrugging your traps to lift the weight
