About this exercise

The Elevated Single Leg Hip Thrust is a unilateral glute exercise performed with your upper back resting on a bench. Working one leg at a time increases the demand on each glute and challenges core stability and hip-extension strength.

How to Perform

  • Place your upper back across a flat bench with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Extend one leg straight out in front of you, hovering it off the ground
  • Plant the supporting foot firmly and brace your core
  • Drive through the heel of the supporting foot to lift your hips until they form a straight line with your torso
  • Squeeze your glute hard at the top of the movement
  • Lower your hips slowly back toward the floor without touching it
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs
