About this exercise

The elevated knee tuck and V-tuck is a compound core exercise performed seated on the edge of a bench. You alternate between tucking both knees toward your chest and extending the legs outward into a V position, working the rectus abdominis and hip flexors through a full range of motion. The elevated surface allows the legs to drop below hip level, increasing the effective range compared to a floor variation.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the edge of a flat bench with hands gripping the sides for support and lean back slightly
  • Extend your legs out in front of you, keeping them off the floor
  • Drive both knees toward your chest in a tuck, squeezing your abs at the top
  • Extend your legs back out into a straight position to form a V with your body
  • Keep your lower back from rounding excessively by engaging your core throughout
  • Continue the tuck-and-extend sequence for the desired number of repetitions
