About this exercise

The Elbow Touch and Lift is a standing shoulder mobility drill where you bring your elbows together in front of your chest and then raise them overhead, opening the chest and activating the shoulder girdle through a full range of motion. It is commonly used as a warm-up or mobility exercise for the upper body.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Raise your arms to shoulder height and bend your elbows to 90 degrees, fingertips pointing up
  • Bring your elbows together until they touch in front of your face
  • Keeping the elbows bent, lift them upward and overhead as high as comfortable
  • Reverse the movement, lowering the elbows and separating them back to the start position
  • Repeat in a smooth, controlled rhythm for the desired number of reps

The Elbow Touch and Lift is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
