About this exercise

The elbow to knee decline side plank is an advanced oblique exercise performed on a decline bench. Supporting the body sideways on one forearm, you repeatedly crunch the top knee toward the top elbow, adding a dynamic element to the anti-lateral-flexion challenge of the side plank.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a moderate decline angle and position yourself in a side-lying position with your lower forearm on the bench
  • Stack your feet on the high end of the bench and raise your hips so your body forms a straight diagonal line
  • Place your top hand behind your head with elbow flared out
  • Draw your top knee toward your top elbow, crunching through the obliques
  • Extend the leg back to the straight plank position with control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
