About this exercise

The elbow lift reverse push-up is a bodyweight back exercise performed lying prone on the floor. By pressing the elbows into the ground and extending the spine, you lift the chest upward, targeting the upper and mid back while also engaging the core and rear shoulders.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your arms bent and forearms flat on the ground beside your torso, elbows at roughly 90 degrees
  • Keep your legs straight and your core lightly braced
  • Press your elbows and forearms into the floor as you extend your spine and lift your chest off the ground
  • Draw your shoulder blades together and hold briefly at the top, squeezing the back muscles
  • Lower your chest back to the floor under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
