About this exercise

The dumbbells seated triceps extension is an overhead isolation exercise performed with one dumbbell in each hand while seated. Both arms work simultaneously, allowing independent range of motion and helping to correct strength imbalances. The overhead position maximises stretch on the long head of the triceps.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench with your back supported or sit at the end of a flat bench
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand and press both overhead until your arms are fully extended, palms facing inward
  • Keep your elbows close to your head and pointing toward the ceiling
  • Slowly lower both dumbbells behind your head by bending at the elbows until you feel a deep triceps stretch
  • Press both dumbbells back to the starting position by extending your elbows, squeezing the triceps at the top
  • Avoid flaring the elbows outward or letting your lower back arch excessively
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
