Dumbbell Zottman Preacher Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Zottman Preacher Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The Dumbbell Zottman Preacher Curl combines a supinated biceps curl on the way up with a pronated reverse curl on the way down, performed on a preacher bench for strict isolation. This technique simultaneously trains both the biceps and the forearm extensors, making it an efficient arm-building exercise.

How to Perform

  • Sit at a preacher bench and hold a dumbbell in one hand with a supinated (underhand) grip
  • Rest the back of your upper arm flat against the pad and allow the elbow to be fully extended
  • Curl the dumbbell upward by flexing the elbow, keeping the upper arm on the pad
  • At the top, rotate the wrist to a pronated (overhand) grip
  • Slowly lower the dumbbell back to the starting position using the pronated grip
  • Rotate back to a supinated grip at the bottom and repeat for the desired reps
  • Complete all reps on one arm, then switch
