About this exercise

The dumbbell underhand renegade row is a challenging plank-based pulling exercise where you row one dumbbell at a time with a supinated (underhand) grip, increasing biceps activation compared to the standard overhand variation while demanding significant core anti-rotation stability.

How to Perform

  • Place two dumbbells parallel on the floor and assume a high plank position, gripping each dumbbell with an underhand (palms-facing-forward) grip
  • Position feet wider than hip-width apart for a stable base
  • Brace the core and keep the hips level and square to the floor
  • Row the right dumbbell up toward the right hip by driving the elbow back and squeezing the lat
  • Lower the dumbbell under control, then row the left dumbbell in the same manner
  • Avoid rotating the hips or shifting weight as you alternate sides
  • Continue alternating for the desired number of repetitions per side
