About this exercise

The Dumbbell Superman is a prone back extension performed while holding dumbbells in both hands. It strengthens the lower back, glutes, and rear deltoids by lifting the arms and legs simultaneously off the floor against additional resistance.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with a dumbbell in each hand, arms extended overhead
  • Keep your legs straight and feet together
  • Simultaneously lift your arms, chest, and legs off the floor by contracting your lower back and glutes
  • Squeeze at the top of the movement and hold briefly
  • Lower your arms and legs back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
