About this exercise

A wide-stance squat performed while standing on two elevated benches, holding a single dumbbell between the legs. The elevation allows a greater range of motion at the bottom, deeply loading the inner thighs, glutes, and quadriceps.

How to Perform

  • Position two flat benches parallel to each other with enough space to stand between them in a wide sumo stance
  • Stand on the edges of both benches with feet wider than shoulder-width, toes turned out
  • Hold a single dumbbell with both hands vertically between your legs
  • Brace your core and sit the hips down and back, lowering the dumbbell below bench level
  • Descend until the thighs are parallel or lower, keeping the chest tall and knees tracking over toes
  • Drive through both heels to return to the starting position
