About this exercise

A compound exercise that combines a wide-stance sumo squat with a dumbbell front raise at the top of the movement. The squat drives the lower body while the front raise simultaneously challenges the anterior deltoid, making it an efficient full-body combination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width, toes turned out about 45 degrees, holding a single dumbbell with both hands in front of your hips
  • Brace your core and lower into a sumo squat by pushing your knees out over your toes and sitting your hips down
  • Descend until your thighs are parallel to the floor, keeping your chest tall
  • As you drive back up through your heels, simultaneously raise the dumbbell straight out in front of you to shoulder height
  • Hold the top position briefly with arms parallel to the floor
  • Lower the dumbbell back down as you prepare for the next squat
  • Continue for the desired number of repetitions
