Dumbbell Wall Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Wall Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A bicep curl performed with the back and upper arms pinned against a wall or held perfectly upright to eliminate all body swing and momentum, placing the entire load directly on the biceps. The strict technique exposes and corrects any tendency to cheat reps.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your back flat against a wall, feet a small step away from the baseboard
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand with arms fully extended and elbows touching the wall
  • Keep your head, upper back, and elbows in contact with the wall throughout the movement
  • Curl both dumbbells upward by flexing the elbows, without letting the elbows drift forward
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top when the dumbbells reach shoulder height
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to full extension, maintaining wall contact
