About this exercise

An abdominal exercise performed lying on the floor where you hold a dumbbell with both hands and extend your arms straight overhead, then crunch upward without bending the elbows. The straight-arm position lengthens the resistance lever, making it more demanding than a standard crunch.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Hold a dumbbell with both hands and extend your arms straight above your chest, perpendicular to the floor
  • Brace your core and curl your upper body off the floor, keeping your arms straight and perpendicular to your torso throughout
  • Pause at the top of the crunch, squeezing the abs
  • Slowly lower your upper body back to the floor with control
  • Repeat for the target number of reps
