The dumbbell starfish crunch is a beginner-friendly ab exercise performed lying on the floor with arms and legs spread wide in a star shape. Holding a dumbbell adds resistance to the crunch, increasing engagement of the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back and spread your arms and legs out wide like a star
  • Hold a dumbbell in both hands, extending your arms overhead along the floor
  • Exhale and crunch upward, bringing the dumbbell and your upper body off the floor while keeping your lower back grounded
  • Reach the dumbbell toward your midsection at the top of the movement
  • Lower yourself back down in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
