About this exercise

A unilateral dumbbell exercise where you raise the weight across your body in a diagonal arc toward the opposite shoulder, emphasising the upper chest and anterior deltoid. The cross-body path of motion creates a strong adduction component that targets the clavicular head of the pectoralis major.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in one hand at your side, palm facing your body
  • Begin with the arm slightly in front of your hip
  • Raise the dumbbell diagonally upward and across your body toward the opposite shoulder, keeping the elbow soft
  • Continue until the dumbbell is roughly at chest or shoulder height on the opposite side
  • Pause at the top, then slowly lower the dumbbell back along the same arc to the starting position
  • Keep your torso stable and avoid rotating the trunk
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
