About this exercise

The dumbbell standing shoulder press to pec dec is a combination exercise that flows from an overhead shoulder press into a pec-dec fly motion in a single continuous rep. The press targets the front deltoids and triceps, while the downward fly arc transitions the load to the upper chest and inner pectorals, making it an efficient compound movement for the anterior upper body.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with palms facing forward
  • Press both dumbbells overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • With arms still raised, bring the dumbbells together above your head, then arc them outward and downward in a wide fly motion
  • Continue the arc until your arms are at roughly shoulder height and your chest is stretched
