About this exercise

A shoulder rehabilitation and mobility exercise using light dumbbells to strengthen the external rotators and improve scapular positioning. It targets the rotator cuff, rear deltoid, and scapular stabilizers while keeping the elbows fixed at the sides.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a light dumbbell in each hand with arms at your sides
  • Bend your elbows to 90 degrees with palms facing each other
  • Retract and depress your shoulder blades to engage the scapular muscles
  • Rotate your forearms outward, away from your body, keeping the elbows pinned at your sides
  • Hold the end position briefly, feeling the contraction in the rear shoulder and upper back
  • Slowly return to the starting position and repeat for the desired reps
