Standing Dumbbell Wide Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Standing Dumbbell Wide Curl.

EasyBiceps

About this exercise

The dumbbell standing inner biceps curl targets the short (inner) head of the biceps by curling with the elbows held slightly out to the sides and the palms supinated throughout the movement. This wider elbow position shifts the peak of the curl inward, helping to develop the fullness and thickness of the biceps.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in each hand with a supinated (palms-up) grip
  • Position your elbows slightly wider than your torso and keep them fixed in place
  • Brace your core and stand tall with your shoulders retracted
  • Curl both dumbbells up simultaneously, keeping your elbows out to the sides and your wrists straight
  • Squeeze your biceps hard at the top of the curl
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Avoid swinging your torso or letting your elbows drift forward
