About this exercise

The dumbbell standing hip hugger is a biceps exercise performed standing, where you curl the dumbbells in a sweeping arc that keeps them close to the body, travelling from hip height upward along the torso to engage the biceps and brachialis through a unique arc of motion.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in each hand with arms extended at your sides, palms facing inward
  • Keep your elbows close to your body throughout the movement
  • Curl both dumbbells upward while keeping them close to your torso, tracing along the sides of your hips
  • Continue curling until the dumbbells reach shoulder height and your biceps are fully contracted
  • Squeeze your biceps at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back down along the same path to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
