About this exercise

A combination shoulder raise that targets both the anterior and medial deltoids in a single rep by transitioning from a front raise to a lateral raise. This efficient compound movement builds well-rounded shoulder width and definition.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs, palms facing your body
  • Raise both dumbbells directly in front of you to shoulder height (front raise)
  • From that position, arc the dumbbells out to the sides until they are level with your shoulders (lateral raise)
  • Lower the dumbbells back to the sides first, then return to the starting position in front of your thighs
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout and avoid using momentum or shrugging the traps
