About this exercise

An overhead triceps extension performed standing with a single dumbbell held with both hands, effectively targeting the long head of the triceps through a full range of motion. The standing position adds a core stability component and allows a deep stretch at the bottom.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding one dumbbell vertically by the inner plate with both hands
  • Press the dumbbell overhead until your arms are fully extended, elbows close to your head
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary and vertical, slowly bend your elbows to lower the dumbbell behind your head
  • Pause briefly at the bottom to feel the stretch in your triceps
  • Extend your elbows to press the dumbbell back to the starting position
  • Maintain a neutral spine and engaged core throughout — avoid arching your lower back
