About this exercise

A standing overhead press where the dumbbells are held behind the head and pressed upward, strongly targeting the medial and anterior deltoids with an increased demand on shoulder stability and mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height behind your head
  • Brace your core and keep your chest tall throughout the movement
  • Press both dumbbells upward in a controlled arc until your arms are nearly fully extended overhead
  • Pause briefly at the top, keeping the dumbbells stable
  • Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height behind your head under control
  • Avoid excessive arching of the lower back by keeping your glutes engaged
