About this exercise

Around the World is a standing shoulder exercise where dumbbells are swept in a wide circular arc from the front of the body, out to the sides, and overhead, then back again. The continuous circular motion challenges the deltoids through multiple planes and improves shoulder stability and mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with palms facing inward
  • Raise both dumbbells simultaneously in a wide arc out to the sides and continue upward until they meet overhead
  • Pause briefly at the top with arms extended overhead
  • Lower the dumbbells back down along the same arc, returning to the starting position
  • Alternatively, reverse the direction on alternating reps to vary the stimulus
  • Keep the movement controlled and avoid using momentum to swing the weights
