MediumOuter forearm

About this exercise

A standing dumbbell curl performed with an overhand (reverse) grip, alternating arms each repetition. The reverse grip shifts emphasis onto the forearm extensors and brachioradialis while still engaging the biceps, making it an effective exercise for balanced forearm and upper arm development.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in each hand with an overhand (pronated) grip, palms facing your body
  • Keep your elbows close to your sides and your upper arms stationary
  • Curl one dumbbell upward toward your shoulder by flexing at the elbow, maintaining the overhand grip throughout
  • Squeeze the forearm extensors and brachioradialis at the top
  • Lower the dumbbell back down in a controlled manner
  • Repeat with the opposite arm
  • Continue alternating arms for the desired number of reps
  • Avoid swinging or using momentum — focus on controlled elbow flexion
