About this exercise

The dumbbell standing alternate raise targets the front deltoid by lifting one dumbbell at a time in a forward arc while standing upright. Alternating arms keeps each shoulder under continuous time under tension and allows a full range of motion per rep.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with palms facing your thighs
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows and brace your core throughout the movement
  • Raise one arm forward and upward to shoulder height, keeping the wrist neutral
  • Lower the dumbbell under control back to the starting position
  • Repeat with the opposite arm, alternating throughout the set
