Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Squeeze Press on Floor.

About this exercise

The dumbbell squeeze press on the floor is a chest press variation performed lying on the floor while pressing the two dumbbells firmly together throughout the movement. The inward squeeze activates the pectoral muscles through adduction, adding constant inner-chest tension that a standard press does not provide. The floor limits the range of motion and protects the shoulder joints.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on the floor with a dumbbell in each hand, held directly above your chest
  • Press the dumbbells firmly against each other and maintain that inward tension for the entire set
  • Lower both dumbbells together toward your chest until your elbows touch the floor
  • Pause briefly at the bottom, then press the dumbbells back up to the starting position
  • Keep the dumbbells squeezed together at all times — never let them separate
  • Maintain a neutral wrist position and keep the core lightly braced
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
