About this exercise

An explosive weightlifting movement performed with a single dumbbell, where you pull the weight from the floor to a front rack position at shoulder height in one powerful motion. It develops lower-body explosiveness, upper-body pulling strength, and full-body coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and a dumbbell on the floor to the side of your foot
  • Hinge at the hips and grip the dumbbell with one hand using a neutral grip, keeping your back flat
  • Drive through the floor explosively by extending your hips and knees simultaneously
  • Use the momentum to pull the dumbbell upward close to your body, leading with a high elbow
  • As the dumbbell reaches chest height, rotate your elbow under and catch it on your shoulder in a front rack position
  • Stand fully upright with the dumbbell racked at your shoulder and your core braced
  • Lower the dumbbell back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
