About this exercise

A unilateral lower body exercise where the rear foot is elevated on a low box and a dumbbell is held in each hand. The movement isolates the front leg, heavily loading the quadriceps and glutes, while challenging balance and hip stability.

How to Perform

  • Place a low box or step behind you and hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides
  • Position your front foot far enough forward that your shin stays vertical when you descend
  • Rest the top of your rear foot on the low box
  • Lower your rear knee toward the floor under control while keeping your torso upright
  • Descend until your front thigh is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Drive through the heel of your front foot to press back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
