About this exercise

A unilateral lower-body exercise in which one foot is elevated on a bench behind you while you descend into a deep squat on the front leg, holding dumbbells for resistance. This movement heavily targets the quadriceps and glutes while challenging balance and hip flexibility.

How to Perform

  • Stand about two feet in front of a bench, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides
  • Place the top of your rear foot on the bench behind you, laces down
  • Position your front foot far enough forward that your shin stays roughly vertical as you descend
  • Brace your core and lower your hips straight down until your front thigh is parallel to the floor or slightly below
  • Keep your torso upright and your front knee tracking over your toes
  • Drive through the heel of your front foot to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
