About this exercise

The dumbbell single leg glute bridge is a unilateral hip-extension exercise that places maximum demand on each glute individually while also challenging core stability. Lying on your back with one leg raised and a dumbbell loaded on your hip, you drive through the planted heel to lift your hips.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Extend one leg straight, keeping it in line with your torso
  • Place a dumbbell on the crease of your hip on the working side and hold it steady with both hands
  • Press through the heel of your planted foot to raise your hips until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to knee
  • Squeeze your glutes firmly at the top and hold for a moment
  • Lower your hips back down with control, stopping just short of the floor
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs and repeat
