About this exercise

The Dumbbell Single Arm Floor Press is a unilateral pressing exercise performed lying on the floor, which limits the range of motion at the bottom and reduces shoulder stress. It effectively targets the chest and triceps while the floor prevents excessive elbow flare.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back on the floor with knees bent and feet flat, holding a dumbbell in one hand
  • Position the dumbbell at chest level with your elbow resting on the floor, upper arm at roughly 45 degrees from your torso
  • Press the dumbbell straight up toward the ceiling, fully extending your arm
  • Slowly lower the dumbbell back until your elbow gently touches the floor
  • Keep your non-working arm either flat on the floor or resting on your torso for stability
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
